as practical primary research towards my beet sustainability magazine, i visited a local farm to interview the farmer, and photograph the livestock using a nikon d3300 dslr—with lenses ranging from 18mm to 200mm—and adobe lightroom classic to adjust clarity, contrast and saturation.
i aimed to capture the emotion in the animals expressions, and the environment surrounding them, such as metal fences and limited space. i used adobe lightroom classic to desaturate the photographs, adding a cold, melancholy tone. the desired effect of the photography is to encourage the viewer to sympathise for the animals, therefore supporting the core idea behind beet sustainability.
